First Appointment

Quick update:

Had first midwife appointment on Wednesday. Our midwives are Stephanie (had her last time, absolutely lovely, we had a great time catching up!), Tori, and Barb W. There are three this time since July will be summer vacation time, so the chances of one of them being off while I'm in labour are high.

Heard the heartbeat at the appointment. Approx. 160 bpm. Felt my uterus halfway up to my umbilicus. BP, urine, and weight are all great.

Appointment took one hour, we bonded and chatted, it was so enjoyable. Decided to do the IPS prenatal screening after all, so we have an ultrasound and blood test booked for this Wednesday. I ran into an old acquaintance at the appointment, who is also pregnant and due on the exact same day as me ("must have been a busy night for both of us!" she said!). It's so nice to be in such a warm, homey, non-clinical environment, to see familiar people, to curl up on the couch-bed during appointments, to be treated as an intelligent person instead of an ignoramus who doesn't know that drugs and alcohol during pregnancy are bad for the baby, and to have the autonomy to decide about what kind of test/care/procedures to undergo during pregnancy without pressure! I love midwives!

Next appointment is in January.

On another note, if anyone has baby name suggestions, feel free to post them here or on Facebook. The criteria are: need boy and girl names, not unisex, not trendy/popular, we like old-fashioned but not common, and nothing that ends with an "ee" sound or that rhymes with our last name (Naomi Denomey?...no! Because we know it will be mispronounced as De-NOE-mee). Bring on the suggestions!
